Aim of the European Day of Sustainable Communities: to celebrate and showcase the multitude of community-led initiatives for climate change and sustainability across Europe and to bring to policy makers attention the good work that is being done. To do this ecovillages, Transition initiatives, permaculture projects, community gardens, community farms, renewable energy cooperatives and anyone taking grassroots action for a more sustainable world is invited to organise an event to mark the day on 22nd September, to register their event on the EDSC website and to share images and video of the day through social media. Events can be anything from an open-day to a film screening, a meal to a conference or a harvesting or food preserving day. To coincide with the day a conference in Brussels on the theme of Municipalities and community-led initiatives targeting policy makers is being organised in cooperation with the EESC and possible the EU Commission.
